Softly Whispering I Love You

“ … but the greatest of these is Love.”
That excerpt from 1st Corinthians 13:13 provides an appropriate segue into a Valentine’s Day blog.
The 13th chapter is called the Love Chapter. If you have never read it, I recommend it.(The other members of “these” are faith and hope).
Love is God’s best miracle. It can’t exist or be expressed in a vacuum. It has to be shared, and we were put here to share it with Him and with each other.
No matter how much we’ve devalued and desecrated everything we’ve touched on this planet, love still makes the world go ‘round.
There is no limit to the kinds of relationships anchored in love … spouses, parents and children, brothers and sisters, best friends, family, etc. Every one is unique and special in its own right.
I stumbled across a song from the ‘70s – “Softly Whispering I Love You” – I’d never heard of until this week. I’d never heard of the group – The English Congregation – that recorded it either. But once I heard it, I haven’t been able to get it out of my head. (And I’m not sure I want to). Ever have a song like that?
I mentioned in “He Was There All the Time” that I never fell in love when I was a teenager. It represented more risk than I was willing to take for a number of reasons, none of which matter anymore.
Nonetheless, I have been blessed with loving relationships – most notably with my Dad – and admire many of the forms love can take without feeling like I missed something or am somehow less of a person because of it.
So here’s a link to a video of that song from back in the day and the lyrics so you can follow along. If we made more music like this, our world would be a lot better off.

Softly whispering I love you
Echoes of your voice are calling
Still through my dreams
Softening the chill of the breeze
Through my window
I can see the moonglow
Painting silver shadows on a rose
Coloured land
A world that we walked hand in hand
In a day of gold coloured by the glow of new love
I can feel your warm face
Ever close to my lips
And the scent of you invades
The cool evening air
I can close my eyes
And you’re there in my arms
Still and I know your soft kiss
Turning into music ev’ry beat of my heart
When I hold you close to my heart
And I hear your voice whispering
I love you.

I can feel your warm face
Ever close to my lips
And the scent of you invades
The cool evening air
I can close my eyes and you’re there in my arms
Still and I know your soft kiss turning into music ev’ry beat
Of my heart
When I hold you close to my heart
And I hear your voice whispering
I love you.
